World Cancer Day

World Cancer Day
World Cancer Day takes place every year on 4th February and is the uniting global initiative under which the world comes together to raise the profile of cancer in a positive and inspiring way. Spearheaded by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), the day aims to save millions of lives each year by raising awareness and improving education about the disease while calling for action from governments and individuals across the world.
 
World Cancer Day 2022 is led by the theme “Close the care gap, recognising the power of knowledge and challenging assumptions.
 
Last year’s campaign saw over 840 activities taking place in 116 countries, including 152 iconic monuments in 91 cities lit up in the colour orange for World Cancer Day, over 20,000 press articles published in 156 countries, and nearly 700,000 social media posts being shared, including at the highest levels from US President Joe Biden, French President Emanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

About the Presentation:
Join Dr. Sikander Ailawadhi of Mayo Clinic (Jacksonville, FL) on Tuesday, February 8th at 11:30am U.S. ET as he highlights WM research and pertinent information from the 2021 American Society of Hematology (ASH) annual meeting.
About the Presenter:
Dr. Ailawadhi is a Professor with the Division of Hematology-Oncology at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville and joined the Division in 2014 when he moved from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles where he was an academic faculty with Hematology.
His career focus has been on treatment of plasma cell disorders, namely multiple myeloma and Waldenström’s macroglobulinemia, and also chronic lymphocytic leukemia. His research has focused on understanding the epidemiology and pathophysiology of these disorders, evaluating the benefit of various therapeutic strategies in different populations based on racial-ethnic and socioeconomic diversity, as well as developing novel therapeutics by means of conducting several regional and national clinical trials.

2021 WMUK Patient-Doctor Summit
Nancy Campbell is a Clinical Exercise Physiologist in the Zakim Center for Integrative Therapies and Healthy Living at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Nancy provides personalized exercise consultations for patients through the Zakim Center. She also teaches several strength training based exercise classes for patients and survivors via Zoom. Nancy has been at Dana-Farber since 2005, is a certified ACE Personal Trainer and has the American College of Sports Medicine Cancer Exercise Trainer certification.  
 
If you are suffering from Peripheral Neuropathy, be sure to join us! This program will include a lively Q&A session following Nancy’s presentation.
