An exploration of integrative oncology, personalized supportive care, and partnering with your healthcare team through a patient scenario.

Join Dr. Alissa Huston, Co-Medical Director of the Pluta Integrative Oncology & Wellness Center, for an exploration of how integrative oncology can support the whole person throughout the Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia (WM) journey.

Through a patient scenario based on common experiences in oncology care, Dr. Huston will demonstrate how an integrative approach considers the many factors that shape a person’s experience with WM—including symptoms, treatment experiences, emotional wellbeing, lifestyle, personal goals, and overall quality of life.

Together, we’ll explore how evidence-based integrative approaches can complement standard cancer care and help address common challenges such as (anxiety, fatigue, immune system issues, sleep concerns, pain, peripheral neuropathy) and the uncertainty that can come with living with a rare cancer diagnosis.

Dr. Huston will share how she develops personalized wellness recommendations, discuss ways patients and caregivers can partner with their healthcare teams, and highlight integrative wellness resources available to the WM community, including those through the IWMF Integrative Wellness Program. The session will conclude with a Q&A where attendees can ask questions and learn more about whole-person care.

BIO:

Dr. Alissa Huston is the Co-Medical Director of the Pluta Integrative Oncology & Wellness Center, where she focuses on how evidence-based integrative approaches can improve quality of life and address symptoms experienced by people living with cancer.

A member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and a Board Member of the Society for Integrative Oncology, Dr. Huston believes excellent cancer care requires a personalized approach. While many patients may share the same diagnosis, each person’s experience with illness, treatment, and survivorship is unique.

Her approach recognizes patients as whole individuals—not simply a diagnosis—and combines medical expertise with supportive strategies designed to address physical, emotional, and overall wellness needs.
