The Forum was sponsored by the IWMF and Hematon (the Dutch blood cancer organization) and followed the 9th International Workshop on WM (IWWM9). The attendees heard about current WM treatment options and the significant progress being made in research from leading international WM physicians and researchers who participated in the Workshop. Dr. Guy Sherwood, IWMF Vice President for Research, highlighted the significant role that the IWMF has played in funding research through donations from patients, caregivers, family, and friends. He also provided an update on the IWMF-LLS Strategic Research Roadmap, a new research initiative to guide WM research funding priorities. He shared with the attendees that the IWMF granted almost $1.7 million (US dollars) on new research projects in 2016, and he expressed the hope that through continuing donations, the IWMF will be able to fund additional Roadmap projects in 2017.
Forum presentations, videos, and photos will appear on the IWMF website (www.iwmf.com) as they become available. The agenda can be found here.
The next Doctor-Patient Forum will follow IWWM10 which is scheduled for October, 2018 in New York City.
