The latest Request for Proposals (RFP) is a result of the ongoing collaborative endeavor between the IWMF and LLS that began in 2015 with the development of the IWMF-LLS Strategic Research Roadmap Initiative. The Initiative identified focus areas for future research efforts in order to accelerate our search for a cure for WM. A Request for Proposals has been issued each year since 2015 to attract and fund new projects from around the world.
The IWMF funds each selected Roadmap project for two years at a maximum of $200,000 per year, totaling $400,000 per project. The yearly RFPs have resulted so far in cumulative spending of nearly $6 million for 15 Roadmap projects.
Regarding the 2020 RFP, IWMF President and CEO, Newton Guerin said, “The Roadmap process initiated by the IWMF and LLS continues to be focused on groundbreaking research that is leading to a cure for WM. Since its inception, grant recipients have published their findings in top medical journals, and their findings provide the basis for further discoveries that will improve the lives of WM’ers around the world! We expect that WM researchers will continue to compete for funding from the IWMF. The number of projects we will support depends entirely upon the generosity of our donors.”
RFP applications are due by February 10, 2021, with scientific review of applications to be completed in May 2021. Announcement of the next awards will be in June 2021. Funding for approved proposals is anticipated to begin August-October 2021.
See the IWMF’s Research Strategy (on the IWMF website) for more details about the Roadmap Initiative and the resulting RFPs. If you want information about how you can support the 2020 RFP and enable us to fund more research in our quest for a cure, contact Newton Guerin at [email protected].
