The latest Request for Proposals (RFP) is a result of the ongoing collaborative endeavor between the IWMF and LLS that began in 2015 with the development of the IWMF-LLS Strategic Research Roadmap Initiative. The Initiative identified focus areas for future research efforts in order to accelerate our search for a cure for WM. A Request for Proposals has been issued each year since 2015 to attract and fund new projects from around the world.

The IWMF funds each selected Roadmap project for two years at a maximum of $200,000 per year, totaling $400,000 per project. The yearly RFPs have resulted so far in cumulative spending of almost $4 million for ten Roadmap projects.

Regarding the 2018-2019 RFP, IWMF President Carl Harrington said, “This represents a continuing commitment toward our search for a cure for WM. We expect that WM researchers will aggressively compete again to secure funding from us. The number of projects we will be able to support depends entirely upon the generosity of our donors.” RFP applications are due by February 13, 2019, with scientific review of applications to be completed in the spring. Announcement of the next awards will be in June 2019. Funding for approved proposals is anticipated to begin September-October 2019.
