The IWMF is pleased to announce that Dr. Tom Hoffmann has been elected to serve as the IWMF Vice President for Research, along with the position of Chair of the IWMF Research Committee.

Tom recently retired from his practice as a thoracic surgeon and decided to rejoin the IWMF Board of Trustees in August 2018, having previously served on the Board from 2002-2004.

Dr. Hoffmann’s extensive medical background will serve him well in his new role. He earned an MD from the University of Arkansas, College of Medicine, served as a resident and thoracic surgeon for over 40 years, and held various committee and leadership positions at Baptist Health Medical Center (in Little Rock, AR) and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.

For many years, Dr. Guy Sherwood has served in the roles of VP for Research and Chair of the Research Committee, with administrative assistance from Sue Herms.  Both are stepping down from their IWMF Board and leadership roles, although Sue will continue to serve as an IWMF Research Committee member.  The IWMF is very appreciative of the dedicated service over the years that both have provided to advance research specific to WM.

We look forward to exciting new advances in understanding what WM is, how it behaves in our bodies, and how best to treat and possibly cure it.  We are confident that Dr. Hoffmann will continue this effort, which is not possible without the work of doctors, researchers, and volunteers involved in various scientific roles with the IWMF and the generosity of donors who believe in the impact that IWMF-funded research continues to have on all our lives.
