SUMMARY:Los Angeles Area CA Support Group
DESCRIPTION:Los Angeles Area CA Support Group \nHello SoCal Group! \nJust a reminder that our next Support Group Meeting will be in-person on August 20!  This will be in conjunction with the Lymphoma Research Foundation. \nIf you haven’t yet registered\, please register for the conference here. Registration is free\, and dinner and parking are included. \nhttps://lymphoma.org/losangelestalk/ \nWednesday\, August 20\, 2025\nWestdrift Manhattan Beach\n1400 Park Avenue\nManhattan Beach\, CA 90266 \n6:00-8:30pm \nArrive by 6:00pm to meet and mingle with our IWMF Support Group Members! \n  \nHere is the schedule: \n  \n6:00-6:30pm: Meet in breakout room (info on room to follow). This will give us a chance to meet and talk before the event. Many of us have not yet met each other in person! The breakout room will be a dedicated room just for our group. \n  \n6:30-7:15pm: Dinner – we will be able to grab dinner at the buffet and take it back to the breakout room. The breakout room will be open at this point to other conference attendees\, not just our group. \n  \n7:15-8:30pm: WM breakout session talk with Dr. Tycel Phillips from City of Hope \n  \nIndolent Lymphoma Educational Session (including WM) presented by  \nDr. Tycel Phillips\, City of Hope \n  \nCancer care is a sort of personal mission for Tycel Phillips\, MD. As a teen\, he saw how pancreatic cancer affected his grandmother and decided to follow her example of service and make his career helping others as a physician. When he was a medical resident\, he lost his mother to breast cancer; her experience with chemotherapy inspired him to pursue research into treatments that are less toxic for patients. His approach to patients is to listen first to understand their needs and develop the most beneficial treatment plan. Leading clinical trials into new targeted therapies is a vital part of Dr. Phillips’ work. He has published over 40 peer-reviewed studies and attracted dozens of research grants. \n  \nLooking forward to seeing many of you there!
